Fireboy’s chart-topping single, Peru, has earned a diamond certification in France, marking another major achievement for the Afrobeats genre. The 2021 hit, bolstered by a remix featuring Ed Sheeran, has now solidified its place among the top-tier Afrobeats songs globally.

The remix version propelled Peru to international fame, reaching No. 53 on the Billboard Hot 100, No. 2 on the UK Official Singles Chart and France’s music charts, and charting in over 20 countries. Across Spotify, the track has amassed over 450 million streams, underscoring its widespread appeal.

In addition to its French diamond certification, Peru has received a gold plaque in Denmark and 2x platinum status in the UK. It is one of the few Afrobeats songs to hold an RIAA platinum plaque in the United States. Fireboy’s breakout success with the track earned him a BET nomination and a performance slot at the 2022 BET Awards.

With this new certification, Peru joins other Nigerian hits like Oxlade’s Kulosa, Ayra Starr’s Rush, Burna Boy’s On the Low, and Rema’s Calm Down on the songs with Diamond certifications.

Fireboy continues to rise globally, recently releasing his fourth album, Adedamola, featuring collaborations with renowned artists like Lagbaja, Seun Kuti, and Grammy winner Jon Baptiste.
