Emilia Pérez Wins Big At 82nd Golden Globe Awards

The 82nd Golden Globe Awards occurred on January 5, 2025, at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Los Angeles. Comedian Nikki Glaser hosted the event, becoming the first woman to host solo.

Emilia Pérez led the film categories with ten nominations and secured four awards, including Best Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy. The Brutalist won Best Motion Picture – Drama.

Fernanda Torres became the first Brazilian actress to win a Golden Globe, taking Best Actress in a Drama for her role in I’m Still Here.

Viola Davis received the Cecil B. DeMille Award for her impact on film, and Ted Danson was honoured with the Carol Burnett Award for his contributions to television.

The film Wicked won the award for Cinematic and Box Office Achievement. This new category honours films that have achieved significant box-office success and made a notable impact on audiences.

Wicked, directed by Jon M. Chu and starring Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande, is a film adaptation of the popular Broadway musical. The movie was released in theatres on November 22, 2024, and grossed over $450 million worldwide within seven weeks.
