Do Not Allow Internal, External Forces Prevent The Success Of The Dangote Refinery – Atiku Tells Nigerians

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has called on Nigerians not to allow internal and external forces to prevent the country from reaping the promised benefits of the Dangote refinery but instead ensure the success of the 650,000-capacity facility.

In a post on his X handle on Saturday, Atiku said:

“Each parent eagerly awaiting the arrival of a child will dutifully undertake the necessary measures to ensure that the nurturing and development of this precious blessing remain a primary focus.”

“With this understanding, I am cautious in considering any deliberate attempts to impede the progress of the Dangote Refinery, a significant private sector project positioned to meet our energy and forex needs.

“Alongside numerous fellow citizens of goodwill, I call upon all Nigerians to take resolute actions to provide reassurance that both internal and external forces are not collaborating to prevent us from reaping the benefits promised by this eagerly anticipated transformative endeavour,” he submitted.

This comes amid the ongoing public arguments between the Dangote Refinery and the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC) over crude supply to the refinery, which escalated on Friday when the Dangote Group accused the NUPRC of not effectively enforcing domestic crude supply obligations.

In response, the NUPRC claimed it facilitated the supply of over 29 million barrels of crude oil to Dangote between January and June 2024. However, the Dangote Refinery disputed this, stating it received no 29 million barrels.

Meanwhile, it was earlier reported that amid this crisis, Dialogue Earth, a London-based NGO backed by several funding organisations that have been credibly linked to American intelligence operations, including Ford Foundation and ClimateWorks, reached out to West Africa Weekly founder David Hundeyin with a $500 offer to write smear piece attacking the Dangote Refinery. The offer was promptly and publicly rejected.
