Nigerian music superstar Davido has shared the inspiration behind the title of his upcoming album, 5ive, set for release on April 18, 2025. The multiple award-winning artist explained that the name was chosen simply because it marks his fifth studio album.
During a Twitch livestream hosted by alternative music star Cruel Santino, Davido clarified that 5ive has no deep symbolic meaning. However, he hinted that research into the number five can show a couple of things.
The announcement comes as Davido continues an eventful year, having already secured his fifth Grammy nomination at the 67th Grammy Awards for his feature on Chris Brown’s Sensational. He has also earned five nominations at the upcoming 17th Headies Awards, including the prestigious Artist of the Year category.
In the buildup to 5ive, Davido has entertained fans with new music. His latest single, Be There Still, released on March 14, blends Amapiano rhythms with a mix of English and pidgin.
The singer will also make five stops in Los Angeles, Atlanta, New York, Paris, and London before the release. The track follows the release of Awuke, a collaboration with Jamaican dancehall artist YG Marley, and Funds, featuring Nigerian stars Chike and OdumoduBlvck.
Additionally, fans can anticipate a collaboration with Omah Lay on the album. Omah Lay, in a recent interview, described their song as a “perfect partnership,” adding to the excitement surrounding 5ive.
With a legacy of hit albums like A Good Time, A Better Time, and Timeless, fans are eager to see how 5ive will shape the next chapter of Davido’s career.
