472

In response to the loss of over 200 lives during the simultaneous attacks on communities in the Bokkos and Barkin-Ladi Local Government Areas of Plateau State on Christmas Eve, the President of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Archbishop Daniel Okoh, issued a resolute call for unity and resilience in the face of adversity.

Expressing deep dismay over the heinous actions of marauders that resulted in the tragic loss of lives and widespread destruction, Archbishop Okoh emphasized the crucial need for Nigerians to embrace the country’s diversity as the cornerstone for fostering a stronger and more harmonious nation.

Addressing the nation in his New Year message, Archbishop Okoh conveyed gratitude to the Almighty for safeguarding citizens through the trials and tribulations of the past year. However, he lamented that the year concluded on a somber note with acts of extreme violence casting a shadow over the joyous season.

He stated, “These acts of aggression against innocent lives are a stark reminder of the fragility of peace in our beloved country. It is a recurrent nightmare that we have witnessed far too often.”

Offering prayers for the departed souls and solace for the bereaved families, Archbishop Okoh fervently appealed to the Almighty for an end to the senseless loss of life and wanton destruction of property, urging for divine guidance towards lasting peace.

Expressing concern over the assailants’ audacity in the face of inadequate repulsion by security agents, Nigerians have voiced their dismay. The attacks, which claimed over 200 lives and resulted in the burning of hundreds of houses and farmlands, have sparked widespread outrage and calls for stronger security measures to protect vulnerable communities.

Amidst the distressing events, Archbishop Okoh underscored the imperative need for resilience, unity, and a steadfast commitment to building a united, peaceful, and prosperous nation. He emphasized that it is in the collective unity of the people that the strength to endure trials and rebuild resilient communities resides.
