Burkina Faso’s Stade du 4 Août in Ouagadougou has officially been approved by the Confederation of African Football (CAF), a significant milestone for Burkinabè football. The announcement, made by Burkina Faso’s Ministry of Sports, confirms that the iconic stadium now meets the required standards to host international competitions, following a thorough inspection by CAF.

The approval, effective as of July 1, 2025, follows a detailed evaluation by CAF inspectors, who found the stadium compliant with the necessary technical and safety regulations. In 2021, CAF stripped Burkina Faso of its hosting rights after the stadium fell into disrepair. Since then, the Burkinabè team has been playing home games in other countries.

However, the Burkinabè government, under the leadership of Captain Ibrahim Traoré, ordered the stadium’s renovation last year, bringing back the opportunity for the country to host home matches in Ouagadougou again.

This development marks the end of a period of uncertainty for Burkina Faso, which had previously been forced to host international matches outside the country due to substandard facilities.

As a direct result of this, reports indicate that Burkina Faso’s national team will host their highly anticipated 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier against Egypt at home. The match is scheduled to take place at the Stade du 4 Août on September 8, 2025.

The renovation works done included improvements to the pitch, spectator facilities, media zones, and security systems.
