Burkina Faso’s Minister of Health, Dr. Robert Lucien Kargougou, has launched the fourth enhanced seasonal chemoprevention campaign (CPS+) in Manga, targeting over 4.5 million children across the country.
The campaign, running from October 18 to 21, 2024, aims to provide preventive malaria treatment to children aged three to 59 months.
According to Kargougou, resources are being deployed for the success of this campaign, including the mobilisation of over 57,000 community distributors, 17,000 town criers, 7,000 head nurse supervisors, and more than 500 national-level supervisors.
Dismas Baza, a representative of the World Health Organisation, praised Burkina Faso’s efforts in malaria prevention, noting that neighbouring countries such as Benin, Togo, and Niger are adopting the country’s seasonal malaria chemoprevention strategies. He added that Burkina Faso’s experts would assist these countries in implementing the programme.
The campaign, free for all children, marks the final phase of the CPS+ initiative and covers the entire national territory.
