The Federal High Court granted the former Minister of Power, Saleh Mamman, bail of ₦10 billion with two sureties in like sum.

A Federal High Court in Abuja has granted the former Minister of Power, Saleh Mamman, bail of ₦10 billion with two sureties in like sum.

This was Justice James Omotosho’s decision while ruling on the defendant’s bail application.

Justice Omotosho ruled that the sureties shall have property worth at least ₦750 million in Abuja. The sureties were also asked to attach certified documents of landed property to the bail application and proof of three years’ tax paid.

Additionally, the court ordered the defendant to submit his bank statements and international passports.

The court, consequently, gave an alternative for the defendant to produce a bank guarantee of the sum, which would automatically free him from the need to present sureties once it was provided.

The arraignment has been adjourned to September 25, 2024, when the trial will begin.

Recall the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission had charged the Former Minister of Power, Saleh Mamman, before Justice Omotosho J. K Omotosho of the Federal High Court in Abuja over alleged N33 billion money laundering offences.

According to EFCC sources, Mamman had 12 charges bordering on conspiracy to commit money laundering and possession and use of known proceeds of criminal conduct.

It was also reported that Mamman had collapsed on Thursday at the Federal High Court in Abuja, where he was arraigned for alleged N33bn fraud.

Mamman was taken into the dock in drenched clothes, with his lawyer explaining to Justice James Omotosho that he collapsed on the court premises and had to be revived by medical personnel just before the case was called for hearing.
