Asake Reigns: Nigerian Artists Shine at 2024 MOBO Awards

Nigeria’s rising music sensation, Asake, stole the spotlight at the 2024 MOBO Awards by clinching the coveted title of Best African Act. Known for his hit track “Lonely at the Top,” Asake emerged victorious over a stellar lineup of African stars, including Adekunle Gold, Davido, Burna Boy, and Wizkid.

The category also showcased talent from across the continent, with artists like South Africa’s Tyla and Eswatini’s Uncle Waffles vying for recognition.

But Asake wasn’t the only Nigerian talent that shone at the MOBO Awards this year. Afro-gospel singer Limoblaze was crowned Best Gospel Artist, adding to Nigeria’s legacy of success at the prestigious event. Joining the ranks of Nigerian icons like 2Baba, D’Banj, and Burna Boy, Asake and Limoblaze celebrated their well-deserved victories.

The MOBO Awards also honoured British-Nigerian rapper Tunde, who took home the title of Best New Artist. Meanwhile, British rapper Central Cee dominated the winners’ circle, scooping up awards for Best Male Act and Song of the Year for his collaboration with British-Nigerian rapper Dave on “Sprinter.”

Other notable winners included Drake and 21 Savage, who shared the title of Best International Act, and Soul II Soul, who received the esteemed Lifetime Achievement Award. The evening celebrated talent, diversity, and achievement in the music industry, with artists from various genres and backgrounds coming together to showcase their brilliance on the global stage.
