Five students were abducted by armed men on Thursday in Enugu State, police confirmed Saturday, saying two of the students were rescued.

It was reported that the armed men attacked students while driving out of the Enugu State College of Health Technology in Oji River, Enugu State.

In a statement made Saturday, the police spokesperson in Enugu State, Daniel Ndukwe, said the incident occurred Thursday evening. The deputy superintendent of police further refuted the reports of “countless number of students” being abducted, calling the reports “false and misleading.”

Mr Ndukwe, narrating what happened, said that when the police were alerted to the attack in the college, the police rushed to the venue and rescued “two of the victims allegedly abducted, while three others are yet to be found.” He added that the police have begun a rescue mission for the three remaining students and hunt for the kidnappers.

The same Thursday the abduction incident occurred, a medical doctor, identified as Innocent Nwoga, was kidnapped in Enugu. The doctor, who is the medical director of Ukehe General Hospital, was abducted along Egede-Ninth Mile-Nsukka road in Enugu State, Premium Times reported.

Also, that same Thursday, 20 medical students were abducted in Benue State on their journey to the Federation of Catholic Medical and Dental Students (FECAMDS) annual convention in Enugu.
