The Abia State Government has started distributing interest-free loans to 302 youths trained in agricultural ventures. The Commissioner for Information and Culture, Okey Kanu, made this known during a press briefing at the Government House in Umuahia on Monday.

The youths were trained earlier this year at CSS Global Integrated Farms in Nasarawa as part of the state’s efforts to boost food production. The loan disbursement was approved by Governor Alex Otti in September, according to the News Agency of Nigeria. The loans will be released in phases based on the progress of the beneficiaries’ farming activities.

Kanu said the Ministry of Agriculture would monitor the process to ensure the funds are properly utilised. Beneficiaries will receive the loans in tranches tied to the level of work completed to prevent misuse of the funds.
