Benin President Romuald Wadagni Visits Burkina Faso to Strengthen Bilateral Cooperation

The President of Faso, Ibrahim Traoré, received his Beninese counterpart, Romuald Wadagni, in Ouagadougou for a friendship and working visit aimed at giving new momentum to relations between the two neighbouring West African nations.

Regional Security at the Heart of Talks

The two leaders addressed the security challenges facing West Africa, reaffirming their commitment to strengthen cooperation, solidarity, and coordination in the fight against terrorism, cross‑border crime, and violent extremism.

Focus on Economy and Trade

Discussions also covered trade, infrastructure, logistics, vocational training, and investment promotion. Both countries intend to further energise economic exchanges for the benefit of their populations.

Port of Cotonou as a Strategic Asset

The two heads of state underscored the importance of the Autonomous Port of Cotonou for supplying Burkina Faso, which is landlocked, and expressed their desire to improve the smooth flow of trade corridors between the two countries.

Towards Strengthened Cooperation

The presidents agreed to revive the Burkina Faso–Benin Joint Grande Commission and to accelerate the finalisation of several pending cooperation agreements.

The meeting marks a new step in the rapprochement between Ouagadougou and Cotonou, with the ambition of strengthening stability, regional integration, and shared development.
