Nigeria’s Super Falcons have booked their place in the finals of the 2025 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) after a thrilling 2-1 win over defending champions South Africa in Tuesday’s semifinal clash at the Stade Larbi Zaouli stadium in Casablanca, Morocco.

Nigeria struck first through Rasheedat Ajibade late first half goal with a penalty kick won by Folashade Ijamilusi for the Falcons, ending the half with a 1-0 win.

South Africa, however, refused to back down and made history in the process. Linda Motlhalo calmly converted from the penalty spot in the 60th minute, becoming the first player to score against Nigeria in the tournament. The goal brought Banyana Banyana level and reignited hopes of defending their 2022 crown.

But the Super Falcons responded with determination. Defender Michelle Alozie gave Nigeria a late win in the fourth minute of added time to steal the final spot.

The victory maintains the Super Falcons’ unbeaten run in the tournament and sets up a highly anticipated final clash. Nigeria, the most successful team in WAFCON history, now have their sights set on reclaiming the continental title they last won in 2018. The Falcons will meet either Ghana or Morocco in the final on Saturday.
