New Nollywood Mystery-Drama, “The Serpent’s Gift,” Set for August 29 Cinema Release

A new Nollywood film, The Serpent’s Gift, will premiere in cinemas across Nigeria on August 29, bringing to the screen a powerful tale of love, betrayal, and inheritance set against the backdrop of Igbo culture and family conflict.

Produced by Nigerian filmmaker Winifred Nkiru Mena-Ajakpovi and directed by Kayode Kasum, the mystery-drama tells the story of Ijeoma, a graceful young widow who is suddenly left to manage the empire of her late husband, Nduka Sylvanus, a respected Eastern Nigerian businessman whose death sparks chaos within his family.

What follows is a gripping battle for control. Ijeoma, played with quiet intensity, must defend her late husband’s legacy from his own family, who believe she doesn’t deserve to inherit what he left behind. With secrets unravelling and loyalties tested, the film explores how grief can be weaponised and how power, in the wrong hands, can become poisonous.

Set against a richly traditional Igbo backdrop, The Serpent’s Gift is not just visually compelling, but also deeply rooted in cultural symbolism.

The cast includes Linda Ejiofor-Suleiman, Stan Nze, Tina Mba, Beverly Osu, Daniel Etim-Effiong, and music sensation Ric Hassani. Each actor brings their character’s demons and motivations to life.

As anticipation builds ahead of the August release, audiences can expect a story that not only entertains but also challenges society’s views on inheritance, loyalty, and the role of women in family power structures.
