Veteran Nigerian filmmaker Kunle Afolayan has had a new 115-seater cinema named in his honour as a tribute to his lasting influence in Nigeria’s film industry. The facility, aptly titled The Kunle Afolayan Cinema, was unveiled during a private tour that featured Afolayan himself, celebrity fashion entrepreneur Seyi Vodi, former Lagos governorship aspirant Abdul-Azeez Olajide Adediran, also known as Jandor, and other notable guests.

Afolayan shared a video of the moment on Instagram, expressing appreciation as he toured the cinema, which Vodi reportedly owns. In the clip, the renowned filmmaker was seen offering prayers and sharing thoughtful advice on technical details for the space.

Fashion mogul Vodi, who appears to have initiated the naming, reposted the moment online with a caption that read:

“It shall be called The Kunle Afolayan cinema. For his outstanding contributions to the movie and entertainment industry. It is a 115-seater cinema.”

The gesture is just one more testament to Afolayan’s reputation as one of the country’s most dedicated creatives. Earlier this year, the Aníkúlápó director launched an ambitious 60-acre KAP Film Village and Resort in Igbojaiye, Oyo State—a massive project designed to serve as a hub for film production, cultural tourism, and training.

Afolayan’s accolades go beyond infrastructure. In 2023, he was inducted into the OSCARS voting academy. Just a year after one of his films was rejected. He described the moment as another opportunity to serve.

From building resorts that nurture talent to inspiring the naming of a cinema in his honour, Kunle Afolayan continues to leave a legacy that will light the screen and the hearts of future generations.
