Shaking Bridge: Crowd Overwhelms Alternative Bridge in Oshodi Amid Closure of Pedestrian Bridge

557

A massive crowd of pedestrians was seen struggling to cross an alternative bridge in the Oshodi area of Lagos early Monday morning following the closure of the pedestrian bridge connecting Oshodi Bus Terminals 2 and 3.

Recall the Lagos State Government had shut down the pedestrian bridge in January due to concerns over its structural integrity and potential safety risks. However, with the alternative bridge overwhelmed by pedestrians earlier today, Lagosians are raising fresh concerns about their safety and the increased risk of theft.

Photos and videos of the congested bridge have gone viral, showing many people navigating the structure, which some users claim is already showing signs of strain.

A social media user, @_teewo, shared a post on X, stating:

Oshodi – Ilupeju bridge this morning. The first bridge has been closed since January or so, and the one we’re using now—this was the situation this morning. @LASGWorks, this is very dangerous for the pedestrians, please do something about the other bridge.

Another user expressed frustration over the difficulty of crossing, saying:

Once watched a video of a girl saying the pedestrian bridge at Oshodi is shaking and this is the cause of it. I spent more than 20min just to walk through the bridge, because of the crowd on it and there’s no other route. @jidesanwoolu needs to do something about this.

The situation has sparked renewed calls for the Lagos State Government to expedite repairs or provide alternative crossing solutions to ease the congestion and prevent potential accidents.
