At least 25 people sustained severe burns following a fire outbreak at the Talata Mafara Central Market in Zamfara State on Tuesday. The incident occurred around 2:30 p.m. after witnesses heard a loud sound followed by an explosion, which triggered the inferno, Zagazola Makama reported.

We heard a loud bang, and then fire spread rapidly across the market. People ran in different directions, but many were caught in the flames,” a trader recounted.

The Zamfara State Police Command confirmed the incident, stating that more than 25 injured victims were evacuated to the General Hospital Talata Mafara for treatment. Authorities also recovered a Dane gun at the scene but have yet to make any arrests.

The perpetrator may have been among the casualties. Investigations are ongoing to determine the cause of the explosion and apprehend those responsible,” the police said.

This incident comes just weeks after a fire outbreak at an Islamiya school in Kaura-Namoda Local Government Area of Zamfara State on February 5, which claimed the lives of 17 Almajiri students. The victims were burnt beyond recognition, while 16 others sustained injuries. Residents near the school said the fire raged for about three hours before it was finally contained.
