Nigeria animated series Iwájú, co-created by Nigeria’s Kugali Media and Disney, has secured three nominations at the 3rd Children’s & Family Emmy Awards.
Simisola Gbadamosi, who voices Tola Martins, leads the honours with a nomination for Younger Voice Performer in a Preschool, Children’s, or Young Teen Program. The show also garnered nods for Best Children’s or Young Teen Animated Series and Directing for an Animated Series for the episode “Kole.”
Set in a futuristic Lagos, Iwájú follows Tola, a girl from a wealthy family, and her best friend Kole, a tech-savvy boy from a less privileged background, as they navigate life’s challenges in a city of contrasts.
The awards ceremony will be held in Los Angeles on March 15, 2025. These nominations highlight Iwájú as a trailblazer in bringing African stories to a global audience, celebrating diversity and creativity in children’s entertainment.
