Yoruba epic film Jagun Jagun, directed by Femi Adebayo, emerged as the top winner at the 2024 Best of Nollywood (BON) Awards, securing six major awards.

The Netflix Original, which premiered in 2023, was honoured in categories including Best Indigenous Film, Best Actor, Best Production Design, Best Special Effects, Best Costume, and Director of the Year. The awards ceremony, hosted by Toyin Abraham, a Hollywood actress, took place at the Sugar Factory Film Studios in Ilorin, Kwara State, on Sunday night.

Out of its 12 nominations, Jagun Jagun bagged these six wins, showcasing its excellence in technical and creative aspects of filmmaking. The nominations spanned categories like Best Cinematography, Best Makeup, and Best Soundtrack, highlighting the film’s all-around appeal.

This success follows Jagun Jagun’s previous recognition at the Africa Movie Academy Awards (AMAA), where it won three of its seven nominations. The film has solidified Femi Adebayo’s reputation as a force in Nollywood storytelling.

Building on this momentum, Adebayo is set to release his directorial debut, Seven Doors, on December 13 on Netflix. The upcoming limited series explores themes of love, family, and cultural conflict through the lens of Yoruba and Igbo traditions. Starring Chioma Akpotha as an Igbo queen and Adebayo himself as a Yoruba king, the story promises a gripping tale of unity tested by external challenges.

With the resounding success of Jagun Jagun, Femi Adebayo continues to push the boundaries of Nigerian cinema, earning accolades and anticipation for his future projects.
