Nigeria’s national grid has collapsed yet again, plunging the country into darkness at around 2:35 p.m. on Monday.
The latest outage marks the tenth grid collapse this year and comes barely two weeks after the previous incident on October 19, which triggered widespread power outages.
This year has been particularly challenging for the nation’s energy infrastructure, with three weekly collapses.
Recall that the Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, had pointed to outdated infrastructure as the primary cause of the recurring breakdowns, emphasising the urgent need for a comprehensive overhaul.
The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) has also expressed concern over the escalating disturbances, noting their severe impact on service reliability and economic productivity.
