Niger Adds 10 More People To Nationality Revocation List Over Suspected Terrorism, Security Threats

Niger Revoke Nationality

Ten more people in Niger may temporarily lose their nationality after being added to a government list for suspected involvement in terrorism or crimes against state security, the Nigerien Press Agency reported.

This decision was made by the national committee overseeing this file on October 28, under an August order that targets individuals or groups undermining national interests.

Those added to the list include Seydina Kadela, Mahmoud Sallah, Safia Amoumoune, Hassoumi Massaoudou, Amadou, also known as Ange Chekaraou, Maman Adam, Boussada Ali, Mohamed Tori, Moussa Kounai and Alkache Alhada.

Being listed restricts their ability to travel inside and outside Niger, bans economic and financial transactions, and freezes all assets and properties they hold. The decision is open to appeal, and those affected can contest it in the State court’s administrative chamber.

It will be recalled that in October, the Nigerien government revoked the nationality of nine individuals, including the Former Minister of Tourism Rhissa Boulla, accused of collaborating with foreign powers and engaging in acts that threaten national security.

According to the government, its decision to revoke the nationality of these individuals was provisional and based on the need to protect the country’s strategic interests.

This latest addition brings the total number on this list to 19.
