The Confederation of African Football (CAF) Disciplinary Board  has awarded Nigeria's national team three points in their African Cup of Nations 2025 (AFCON) Qualifiers game

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) Disciplinary Board has awarded Nigeria’s national team three points in their African Cup of Nations 2025 (AFCON) Qualifiers game following an inhumane act by the Libyan Authorities against Nigeria’s Super Eagles.

The disciplinary decision stems from Libya’s breach of CAF regulations, which disrupted a scheduled match against Nigeria in Benghazi on October 15, 2024.

According to an official letter from CAF, seen by West Africa Weekly, the decision was made on October 26, 2024, by the CAF Disciplinary Board.

The panel, led by Chairperson Ousmane Kane of Senegal, alongside members from Kenya, Chad, Lesotho, and South Africa, found Libya violating key provisions in the AFCON Regulations and CAF’s Disciplinary Code.

The incident was linked to issues at the airport, which ultimately led to the cancellation of the match.

The CAF Disciplinary Board’s decision included declaring Libya’s scheduled AFCON qualifying match against Nigeria a forfeit, resulting in a 3-0 victory awarded to Nigeria and imposing a $50,000 fine on the Libyan Football Federation, with payment due within 60 days.

Recall that the Libyan Football Federation (LFF) had earlier condemned Nigeria’s decision to withdraw from their 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier scheduled for October 15, threatening legal action to protect the interests of its national team.

LFF also claimed that Nigeria failed to cooperate during both the first and second legs of the qualifiers.
