Lagos-Abuja Flight Fares Surge, As Air Peace Price Increases to N286,000 As Festive Season Draws Near

Air Peace has announced a 100% increase in ticket prices across all local routes, effective November 1, 2024, a move that will see the cost of a one-way ticket from Lagos to Abuja soar from N143,000 to approximately N286,000.

This latest fare hike comes just as Nigerians gear up for the end-of-year festivities, adding to the struggles of intending travellers grappling with elevated transport costs due to rising fuel prices.

In an email to customers, Air Peace confirmed the price hike, advising passengers to consult with dedicated booking agents for further details.

Please be informed that effective 1st November 2024, Air Peace will be adding a 100% increase to their fares across all local routes, the airline said in an email sent to its customers. Kindly reach out to your dedicated consultant for further support, the email reads.

West Africa Weekly earlier reported a possibility of an increase in Lagos-Abuja airfare, with Air Peace price being the highest among Nigeria’s domestic airlines.

Aero Contractors, Arik Air, and Ibom Air charge between N94,000 and N139,292 on average for a one-way flight on the Lagos-Abuja route.

The airfare surge adds to the financial burdens of Nigerians already facing transport inflation.

Earlier this month, Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) increased the pump price of petrol at its retail outlets beyond N1,000 per litre, driving up road and air travel costs nationwide.

Although road travel was previously an alternative for cost-conscious travellers, rising fuel prices have made this option equally challenging.

While insecurity remains a significant concern across Nigeria, pushing more Nigerians toward air travel is the safer choice.

Yet, with the growing ticket costs, air travel is slipping out of reach for many, putting additional strain on citizens seeking to reunite with family and friends over the holidays.
