Benin has shipped its fourth tanker of Niger’s crude oil onward to Singapore, “Front Coral,” a tanker carrying 155,000 cubic meters set sail from Benin’s port of Sèmè last Wednesday, marking another significant development in Nigerien oil exports.

The cargo, bound for Singapore, is part of a series of shipments following the recent resumption of oil exports through Benin.

The departure of the tanker had been delayed due to adverse weather conditions on October 12, but loading operations were completed without incident.

This is the fourth tanker carrying Nigerien crude to Asia since restrictions on oil exports were lifted, showing Niger’s growing role as a supplier of energy to the region.

The resumption of Nigerien oil exports via Benin shows the strengthening of economic relations between the two West African nations, particularly in the energy sector.

By facilitating trade routes to Asian markets, the partnership is not only boosting local economies but also meeting the increasing energy demands in Singapore and beyond.

This latest shipment further consolidates Niger’s position in global energy trade and reflects the deepening cooperation between Niger and Benin.

Recall that Niger resumed crude oil exports to Benin in August 2024, following a resolution of the dispute that had halted the flow of oil through a Chinese-funded pipeline.

The pipeline, which stretches nearly 2,000 kilometres from Niger’s Agadem oilfield to the Benin coast, had been blocked since June due to political tensions between the two nations.
