Pan-African Activist Kémi Séba Announces His Candidacy for Benin’s 2026 Elections

Kémi Séba, a Beninese activist and a fierce critic of French imperialism, has been released from detention without charges, two days after he was arrested in France.

The Pan-Africanist who has been stripped of his French nationality was detained on Monday reportedly on suspicion of “foreign interference” in French affairs.

TRT Africa reported that despite his release, France’s prosecutor’s office would continue preliminary investigations into possible “foreign interference” and “intelligence sharing” with a view to “stirring up hostilities or acts of aggression against France”.

Sebas’s fellow Pan Africanist, Hery Djehuty, who was arrested alongside him, was also released.
