Yet To Capture Bello Turji, Nigerian Army Reiterates Pledge To Flush Bandits

The Nigerian Army has reiterated its pledge to flush out bandits and terrorists from Nigeria.

The Chief of Army Staff, Lt. General Taoreed Lagbaja, renewed this pledge on Tuesday during the commissioning of the Chief of Army Staff Special Intervention Civil-Military Cooperation Project at the Model Primary Healthcare Centre in Kogi State.

Lagbaja, represented by the General Officer Commanding 2nd Division, Nigerian Army, Major General O.G. Onubogu, vowed that bandits would be defeated in Kogi state and Nigeria.

He said, “We are on the lookout for bandits and terrorists who do not want the people of Kogi State to sleep.

“We are poised to ensure that we not only root out evil from the community, but we also provide support to make sure that our communities can thrive in peace.

“We are urging Nigerians to support all activities so that together we can defeat our common adversaries and overcome all security challenges within the country.”

This pledge is one of many such and is coming about a month after the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), Christopher Musa, vowed that a notorious bandit kingpin, Bello Turji, would soon be captured.

Turji and his militants are terrorising states in the North West region, including Zamfara, Kebbi and Kaduna. He also mandates farmers to pay taxes to him for their protection.

The CDS vowed last month that Turji’s capture was imminent.

“We are going to get him, and I can assure you within the shortest possible time, we are going to address that issue,” he pledged.
