Malian Troops Go Offensive Against Terrorists On Algerian Border

822

Mali has deployed troops to the northeastern part of the country, near its border with Algeria, for an offensive operation against terrorists in the area.

According to a post on X by AES Info, the Northeastern region of Mali is a stronghold of the Jama’a Nusrat ul-Islam wa al-Muslimin (JNIM), a terrorist group linked with al-Qa’ida

The Malian armed forces launched an offensive on September 30 against the CSP/JNIM terrorist groups. The objective of this operation is to regain control of Tinzaouatène, the last town on the Algerian border still under terrorist occupation. This new phase of the fight against terrorism in Mali marks an intensification of efforts to secure the border areas, the post read.

The Alliance of Sahel States (AES), comprising Mali, Burkina Faso and Algeria, is embroiled in the fight against insurgency.

Various groups terrorising the Sahel region are suspected of getting support from Western governments.
