The Ministers of Foreign Affairs of the Alliance of Sahel States (AES) met on Monday in Bamako, Mali’s capital, to discuss ways to consolidate the alliance of the three member-states, Mali, Niger and Burkina Faso.

The meeting is part of various activities commemorating the AES’s first anniversary, which started on Sunday, September 15, 2024.

The meeting of the foreign ministers marks an essential step in consolidating the alliance and operationalising the AES confederation treaty signed last July in Niamey by the presidents of Burkina Faso, Mali and Niger.

According to reportsthe main objective of this meeting was to coordinate the diplomatic actions of the Confederation. It will focus on the proposals of senior officials concerning diplomacy and the strategic axes of the Malian presidency of the AES.

West Africa Weekly reported that the AES will soon launch a biometric passport and a TV station for all member states. This was announced by the AES President, Colonel Assimi Goïta, in his anniversary speech on Sunday.
