The military has removed the bodies of 37 villagers killed by Boko Haram in Mafa, a town in Yobe State’s Tarmuwa Local Government Area. The bodies were taken to Babbangida General Hospital, where a mass burial is planned for 10 a.m. on Tuesday.

The Yobe State Deputy Governor, Hon Idi Barde Gubana, and other top officials will attend the burial at Babbangida Emir’s palace.

However, sources from the community report that at least 87 people were killed in the attack, with some bodies still unaccounted for as they died in the bush, and the military could not find them.

Boko Haram militants attacked the village around 4 p.m. when residents were returning from their farms, killing many villagers, mostly farmers, and setting homes and shops on fire.

A source told Daily Trust that the attack might be retaliation for villagers providing information to the military, leading to the killing of several insurgents in July.

The Yobe State Police and the Governor’s Special Adviser on Security confirmed the attack, noting that military personnel had been deployed to restore order.
