Kenyan Police Officers on a multinational mission in the Haiti Republic have yet to receive their deployment allowance two months after they arrived in the Caribbean nation.

On Tuesday, the Kenya National Police Service admitted that the officers had yet to receive their allowances but assured that it was working to ensure they were paid by next week.

The Haiti mission, which aims to tackle gun violence, was approved by the United Nations and is funded by a trust fund with donations from various countries.

Nation Newspaper Kenya reported that families of the deployed policemen are facing financial difficulties at home due to the payment delay.

About 600 Kenyan officers are in Haiti fighting violent gang groups to restore peace in the violence-ridden country.

The main financial contributors to the mission are Canada, France and the United States of America.

Two months ago, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken authorised the release of $109 million (Sh14.1 billion) to purchase military equipment for the police officers’ barracks in Port-au-Prince.
