Security Forces Arrest 18 Gunmen Linked to Notorious Bandit Bello Turji in Sokoto

Nigerian security forces have arrested 18 gunmen associated with notorious bandit leader Bello Turji near the Nigeria-Niger border in Sokoto State. The arrests were part of an operation targeting armed groups terrorising northwestern Nigeria.

Bello Turji, a feared figure linked to numerous attacks, kidnappings, and violent crimes, has long been a threat in the region. His network of criminals is considered one of the most dangerous.

A joint team of military and law enforcement agencies carried out the operation. A security source involved in the mission confirmed that the suspects are undergoing interrogation to gather intelligence that could lead to more arrests and dismantling of Turji’s network.

Footage circulating online shows the captured fighters being held and interrogated by security operatives.

A security officer in the video stated, “Here with us are bandits, Bello Turji’s fighters, whom we captured along the Nigeria-Niger border.”

These arrests come shortly after the brutal murder of District Head Isa Muhammad Bawa by bandits. Zagazola Makama, a security analyst, confirmed the arrests and said that the operation is part of broader efforts to reduce cross-border banditry.
