The Burkinabe Prime Minister, Dr Apollinaire Kyélem de Tambèla, has expressed support for creating a unified educational program across the Confederation of the Alliance of Sahel States (AES), which comprises Burkina Faso, Mali and Niger.

During a Friday meeting with Mali’s Minister of Education, Amadou Sy Savané, in Burkina Faso’s capital, Ouagadougou, Tambèla discussed the potential for a unified educational curriculum within the AES. Tambèla averred that such a program, especially in basic education, would strengthen the bonds among the three countries.

“We must think about the best way to pool our energies in the context of basic education, in particular,” the prime minister said. “Initially, students are supported by their families, but also by the school in the fundamental sense of the term.

“Therefore, we must pool our efforts to give our children a quality education.”

Tambèla also suggested incorporating the history and geography of each AES country into the school programmes of member states to foster unity and the spirit of the alliance among the younger generations of the confederation.

Malian education minister Savané, who was in Burkina Faso for the Day of Academic Excellence (a celebration of Burkinabe students and teachers), also met with Burkina Faso’s Head of State, Captain Ibrahim Traoré.

Savané said he received valuable advice from Capt Traoré on strengthening cooperation among AES countries to ensure a brighter future for the region’s children.
