A Ghanaian entrepreneur has donated food worth about 13.671 million FCFA ($23,000) to Burkinabe refugees living in northern Ghana. The donation was made Thursday by the CEO of both Ghana Nuts Limited and International Oils and Fats Burkina, Dr Obed Asante.

The donation is intended to support Burkinabe refugees who have fled to Ghana due to the ongoing security challenges in their home country.

The interim manager of the Consulate General of Burkina Faso in Kumasi, Tobignaré Jacques Gouba, expressed gratitude for Asante’s generosity and solidarity towards Burkina Faso. He noted that the food donation would provide immediate relief to the refugees.

Asante’s representative, Kwadwo Obeng Abogye, said the donation reflects the donor’s strong sense of solidarity with the people of Burkina Faso who are going through security and humanitarian problems. He praised the refugees for their integrity, resilience and hard work and announced that Dr. Asante will also offer them a 1,000-hectare field for farming.

He will support you with inputs and will buy all of your production of corn, soybeans, sesame, ginger, onions and shea nuts for his factories, Abogye added.

The Burkinabe refugees in Savannah and Bono East regions of Ghana are estimated to be over 900 in number.
