A Ghanaian journalist and blogger, Andre Mustapha Inusah, has called out Delta Airlines for wrongly labelling Ghanaian dishes.

In a statement published online, Inusah, a.k.a Attractive Mustapha, urged the airline to honour and maintain the traditional names of Ghanaian dishes served onboard to ensure the genuine representation of Ghana’s food heritage.

“I have been fortunate to come across a few airlines, such as Delta Airlines, that have tried to include Ghanaian dishes on their menu. However, there is a growing concern that needs to be addressed,” the journalist wrote.

“I was presented with a dish labelled as ‘Ghanaian style rice,” only to discover that it was, in fact, the beloved Ghanaian dish Waakye, accompanied by Wagashi, a traditional West African cheese made from cow’s milk.

“While I relished the meal, I was puzzled by the airline’s decision to obscure the authentic names of these cherished dishes.”

Inusah said he found the “deliberate renaming” of the West African country’s dishes not just to be an “error” but a “disservice” to the cultural heritage of Ghana.

He urged Delta Airlines and other airlines operating from Ghana to respect and preserve the names of Ghana’s cultural dishes.

“This seemingly small change could significantly impact the travel experience, fostering a deeper appreciation for Ghanaian culture and encouraging more tourists to explore our vibrant food scene,” Inusah wrote.
