Herdsmen Farmer Killed Ondo

Suspected herdsmen have reportedly killed another farmer, Joshua Gbadamosi, in Ifira Akoko, Akoko South-East Council area of Ondo state, on Tuesday.

According to reports, Gbadamosi, a 15-year-old boy, was murdered at his farm in Ogudu Farm Settlement. The lifeless body of the teenager from Odoro Quarters, Ifira, was found after he was allegedly attacked with a machete by the suspected herdsmen.

A police source revealed that the body was recovered at Isua Akoko and transported to the morgue at Ipe Akoko General Hospital.

The Spokesperson for the state Police Command, Funmilayo Odunlami-Omisanya, confirmed the incident, stating that a suspect has been arrested. She identified the suspect as 15-year-old Adamu Farouk.

In response, traditional rulers and community leaders convened an emergency meeting to address the resurgence of kidnappings, killings, and other crimes in the four council areas of the district.

Oba Victor Adetona Olasehinde, the Owa of Ogbagi Akoko and chair of the Akoko Divisional Council of Obas condemned the killings as “callous, wicked, and unacceptable.” He expressed concern that the unchecked activities of the herdsmen are driving farmers away from their fields, threatening the region’s role as a key food supplier for the state.

The monarchs urged the government and security agencies to intensify efforts to restore peace and security in the Akoko communities, warning that continued neglect could have severe consequences for the community and beyond.

This tragic incident followed another killing last week when 36-year-old Sunday Ayeni was similarly slain on his farm in Uba Oka, Akoko South-West Local Government Area. In response, the women of the community protested half-naked, demanding justice for the ongoing violence and destruction caused by herdsmen.
