Netflix Renews Hit Series ‘Supacell’ For A Second Season

Netflix has officially renewed its groundbreaking series “Supacell” for a second season, following the show’s exceptional performance on the platform. Created by Rapman, the show has quickly become a global sensation, making waves on the top 10 lists worldwide since its release.

Set against the backdrop of modern-day South London, “Supacell” tells the story of five ordinary Black individuals who, connected by a shared family history of sickle cell disease, unexpectedly acquire superpowers. As they come to terms with their new abilities, they find themselves targeted by a secret organisation intent on controlling them.

The series, Rapman’s first foray into television, has received widespread acclaim for its unique premise and powerful storytelling. Directed by Sebastian Thiel, “Supacell” features a diverse and talented cast, including Tosin Cole, Jessica Magaye, Ricardo McCleary-Campbell, Saraphina Mattis, Melissa Simon-Hartman, Cleo Young, and Micheal Ademilua, who form the core group known as the Supacell Six.

In an interview with BellaNaija, Rapman, who serves as the series writer and executive producer, shared his motivation behind creating “Supacell.” He expressed his desire to inspire and bring attention to sickle cell disease. Rapman stated, “I never understood a disease that predominantly hurts black people. So I said, let me do something. Instead of making us weak, let me do something to make us strong.”

Supacell” has been a significant hit for Netflix, particularly notable as one of the most successful series to emerge from the UK in recent years. Weeks after its launch, the show continues to dominate the global top 10 charts, underscoring its widespread appeal and popularity.
