A 25-year-old contract worker at an industrial company in Lagos State, whose identity has not been disclosed, allegedly took his own life by jumping into an iron melting pot.

The incident was confirmed by the Lagos State Police Command’s spokesperson, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, on Sunday.

According to Hundeyin, the company’s safety officer reported the tragic event to the Sagamu Road Police Division on August 3 at approximately 6:00 p.m.

The incident occurred at the company’s facility within the Industrial Scheme in the Odogunyan area of Ikorodu, Lagos State.

The report indicated that on the same day, around 3:15 p.m., the contract worker, who was assigned to the AOD Section of the company, suddenly ran towards the iron melting pot—an area strictly off-limits to all employees during operation.

Despite efforts by his colleagues to prevent the tragedy, the young man reportedly leapt into the molten iron.

Hundeyin noted that the extreme heat of the iron melting pot completely melted the worker’s body.

Police detectives from the Sagamu Road Division were dispatched to investigate.

The family of the deceased has been informed, and the investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident is ongoing.
