Youth activist Bashir Abubakar has regained freedom from detention following interventions by a team of lawyers. Abubakar was arrested for advocating against bad governance in Nigeria and with controversial cases concerning the production of #EndBadGovernanceInNigeria T-shirts in Kano.

According to Activist Omoyele Sowore, ” The team of lawyers sent to the DSS today secured the release of Bashir Abubakar from the DSS dungeon; Bashir was the youth activist from Kano who was accused of producing #EndBadGovernanceInNigeria T-shirts in Kano.”

“They will not be allowed to confiscate Bashir’s merchandise after unlawfully brutalising him,” he continued.

Sowore noted that there are also efforts to release another detainee, Junaidu Abdullahi, a popular TikToker from Kano who has been imprisoned for his alleged involvement in the #EndBadGovernanceInNigeria, #DaysOfRage, and #RevolutionNow movements.

Abdullahi is currently in Kano prison, and his case has prompted protests by the interest legal advocacy groups and human rights defenders who vehemently rejected the conditions of his prolonged detainment, with a plea to have him immediately released.
