French authorities have issued a recall for Olympics-branded water bottles for children, citing excessive endocrine disruptor Bisphenol A (BPA) levels.

This recall comes just a week before the highly anticipated Olympic Games opening in Paris.

The reusable water bottles manufactured by Vilac were found to contain levels of Bisphenol A that are not compliant with regulations governing products designed for food contact, according to a statement released Friday on the government website Rappel Conso (Consumer Recall).

The bottles in question are identifiable by their white colour and beige, blue, or red tops and are decorated with the Olympic rings, the Paris 2024 mascot, or the Olympic flame.

These bottles were sold in France from late August of last year until the beginning of June this year.

Authorities have advised consumers who purchased these bottles to return them to the place of purchase for a refund or exchange.

The French government emphasises the importance of this recall due to the potential health risks posed by Bisphenol-A.

Bisphenol A, once commonly used in the production of food containers, has been banned in France since 2015.

The French food safety agency Anses has classified it as an endocrine disruptor, linking it to various health problems, including breast cancer and infertility.
