Two Moroccan football players playing for Ittihad Tanger, a top-flight team, are missing at sea after strong currents drifted their small yacht on Saturday.

Ittihad Tanger revealed this on Sunday.

The two players, Salman Harraq and Abdellatif Akhrif were part of a group of five teammates who went cruising off the northern city of Tangier. Strong currents and heavy winds moved their yacht away while swimming in deep water, the club’s deputy president, Anass Mrabet, told Reuters.

Three of the five players were rescued on Saturday while the search for the remaining two remains.

Akrif, 24, is a squad member of the football team, while Harraq, 18, was due to move up to the senior squad this year, Mrabet said.

After gaining promotion to Moroccan top-flight football in 2015, Ittihad Tanger won the league in 2017/2018, their first-ever league title in history.
