Egypt Building Collapse Assiut

Fourteen people have died when a three-story building collapsed in the southern Egyptian city of Assiut, Governor Essam Saad said on Tuesday.

The bodies were recovered from the rubble during search and rescue operations after the collapse on Monday.

Six people were rescued and taken to the hospital, Saad said.

The governor requested an engineering committee to inspect the collapsed building and nearby structures, find out why it collapsed, and ensure the safety of the surrounding houses.

Poor maintenance of old buildings and violations of construction regulations are often blamed for deadly residential building collapses in Egypt.
