Despite security personnel being on duty, thieves stole a transformer worth GH¢71,000 from the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) near the Bunso police station in the Fanteakwa South District of the Eastern Region.

The 100kVA transformer was taken last week from its location near the Bunso Police Station and the Fire Service command.

The theft led to over a week of power outages affecting the nearby institutions and households.

According to reports, officials at the Eastern Regional Office of ECG, concerned by frequent attacks on their infrastructure, are working to replace the stolen transformer.

ECG management has urged security agencies to increase their vigilance to catch the thieves and prevent further disruptions to the region’s power supply.
