Uganda, UAE Sign Deal for New International Airport

Uganda has signed a deal with a business association from the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to build a new international airport, according to President Yoweri Museveni’s office on Friday.

The UAE’s Sharjah Chamber of Commerce and Industry will construct the airport near Kidepo National Park in northeastern Uganda, close to the border with Kenya. This will be Uganda’s third international airport.

In a post made by President Museveni on X, he said that the agreement was “a sign of the deepening relations with our Gulf partners and another opportunity to cooperate in investment and trade.”

The chairman of the Sharjah Chamber of Commerce, Abdallah Sultan Al Owais, confirmed that construction would commence in August.

The airport aims to boost tourism by attracting more visitors to the Kidepo National Park, home to lions, giraffes, buffaloes, and other big games.

Furthermore, this deal represents expanding the UAE’s economic interests in Uganda beyond the renewable energy and oil and gas industries.
