Peter Obi, the Labour Party Presidential Candidate, has expressed deep concern over the escalating insecurity across Nigeria, highlighting recent incidents that underscore the severity of the situation.

In a statement released on X today, Obi lamented the kidnapping of the Managing Director of Fouani Company, Mohamed Fouani, along with three other Lebanese nationals in Lagos.

Obi pointed out the troubling new tactics employed by kidnappers, such as using boats and demanding ransoms in foreign currency, which he described as “a new and more ugly dimension” to the country’s insecurity.

He emphasised the severe economic instability and the threat to national existence that these actions cause.

In another tragic incident on a day meant for Holy celebration, gunmen attacked Dudun Doki village in the Gwadabawa Local Government Area of Sokoto State, resulting in the deaths of over 10 people and the abduction of many others.

Obi expressed sorrow over these attacks and the attendant loss of lives.

“I urge more concerted efforts to safely rescue Mr Fouani and other abductees from the hands of their captors,” Obi stated.

He called on the government and security agencies to implement more stringent measures against the prevailing insecurity in the country.

Obi also appealed for divine intervention, saying, “May Almighty Allah accept our prayers for our nation on this day, show us mercy, and intervene in our situation.”
