Manchester United has announced a significant upgrade to their Carrington training facility, with a £50 million project set to modernise the men’s first-team building.

The club revealed on their official X (formerly Twitter) account that the refurbishment will commence next week, aiming to deliver a world-class environment for players and staff.

Recall former Manchester United star Cristiano Ronaldo had offered criticism of the club’s infrastructure.

Before his departure to Saudi Arabian club Al Nassr, Ronaldo had voiced concerns about the outdated facilities at Carrington.

The extensive project will see all areas of the men’s first-team building at Carrington refurbished, transforming it into a high-performance environment designed to meet the needs of modern football.

This development will include state-of-the-art training equipment, enhanced medical and rehabilitation facilities, and improved amenities for players and staff.

In their announcement, Manchester United expressed their commitment to providing a premier training environment.

“The £50m project will see all areas of the building refurbished to deliver a world-class facility, creating a high-performance environment for players and staff,” the club stated.

In an official release, Jim Ratcliffe said: “We want to create a world-class environment for our teams to win. When we conducted a thorough review of the Carrington training facilities and met with our men’s first-team players, it was clear the standards had fallen below some of our peers. This project will ensure Manchester United’s training ground is once more renovated to the highest standards.

“Lord Foster, a fellow Mancunian, has brought some great inspiration to the design, in conjunction with the Manchester United team, and we look forward to seeing the improvement in the facilities, but most importantly, on the pitch.”

The renovations are reportedly set to continue throughout the 2024-25 season, and temporary setups will be created to ensure that players and staff from the teams can continue to operate successfully next season.
