Sit-at-home: South East Governors Condemn Killing of Soldiers in Abia
Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodinma

The South East Governor’s Forum has condemned the attack of Thursday morning, which left two soldiers dead at a checkpoint at Aba, Abia State.

The attack, which occurred at Obikabia junction in Aba, was reportedly carried out by suspected members of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) in a bid to enforce sit-at-home.

However, the sit-at-home was meant to commemorate Biafra Day.

While speaking to the press in Owerri, Hope Uzodinma, the Governor of Imo State and Chairman of the South East Governor’s Forum, described the attack as “unfortunate.”

On behalf of my brother governors in the South East Governors’ Forum, I condemn that incident and loss of the lives of soldiers who were on their duty posts, he said.

He further adds, “Without any provocation, they were attacked by the men of the underworld.

The unfortunate thing is that it will act as a significant setback to the peace process pursued by the governors from the zone with the Federal Government, security agencies and other critical stakeholders on how best to resolve the regional security problem,” he said.

He also noted that the incident would portray Southerners in a bad light, who are seen without sympathy for human beings.

The governor has since extended condolences to the Chief of Army Staff and the families of soldierswho lost their lives in the unfortunate incident.

We here in the South East will ensure that we leave no stone unturned to ensure peace in the region needed for development, he added.
