Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, marked his first year in office with a festival of praise and worship, today, May 29, at an Event Centre in Asaba and aired on Tv.

This event followed a thanksgiving service held on Sunday at Living Faith Church, Asaba.

The festival according to a statement, would feature performances from prominent gospel artists including Mercy Chinwo, Frank Edwards, Evang. Emmanuel Ofano, Buchi, Asu Ekiye, Evang. Jerry Ekpekuro, and Tisio-Tisio.

The event was organised to glorify God and celebrate a year of significant achievements in project delivery and human capital development under Governor Oborevwori’s administration, as outlined in his MORE Agenda, the statement noted.

The statement from the Publicity sub-committee had invited party members, political stakeholders, and residents of Delta State to join the Governor in this celebratory event.

However, the timing and resources used for the event has sparked criticism. As critics pointed out that the event was scheduled during work hours.

The federal government shifted the Democracy Day holiday from May 29 to June 12, a date of  significance in Nigeria’s democratic history.

Also, critics pointed that holding such an event during work hours could disrupt normal activities and reflect poorly on governance priorities.

Despite these concerns, the event drew a large crowd of supporters and well-wishers in the celebrations and offered thanks for the year’s achievements.

An X user @dayosawyerr commented: “The praise worship is not even the problem, The amount of money that will be paid to air the event is what worries me ,
@ARISEtv  and @channelstv will cash out all through this week. That’s good for them anyways.”
