Senator Abdul Ahmed Ningi, representing Bauchi Central, has been granted a pardon and recalled to the red chamber after three months of suspension. Ningi was suspended in March 2024 for exposing the Senate’s involvement in budget padding.
Ningi had alleged that Nigeria’s 2024 budget was padded by over 3.7 trillion naira, a revelation that embarrassed his colleagues. Rather than deny it, they voted for his suspension.
Meanwhile, Ningi’s recall was set in motion by Deputy Minority Leader Sen. Abba Moro, who expressed remorse on behalf of the suspended senator.
Sen. Moro assumed full responsibility for Ningi’s actions and acknowledged the severity of his suspension.
Senate President Godswill Akpabio highlighted Ningi’s contributions and referred to him as a valuable member of the Senate.
Akpabio noted that Ningi was remorseful and added that the decision to reinstate hiM transcends religious and ethnic divides.
