A total of 45 people, including 11 children, in southern Myanmar’s Ayeyarwady region were hospitalised due to food poisoning, a local rescue official told Xinhua on Tuesday.
The victims from Labutta township became ill on Monday after eating spicy egg curry. The affected individuals, including day labourers and their families, had received the curry at their workplace and took it home to share. On Tuesday, 31 of the victims were discharged from the hospital.
Food poisoning happens when people eat food contaminated with germs.
This can occur if food isn’t cooked or appropriately reheated, isn’t stored correctly, is left out too long, is handled by someone sick or hasn’t washed their hands, or is eaten after its expiration date.
Any food can cause food poisoning.
Symptoms include nausea, diarrhoea, vomiting, stomach cramps, a high temperature, and feeling generally unwell, such as tired or having aches and chills.
These symptoms usually start within a few days of eating the contaminated food, though they can appear within a few hours or take several weeks to show up.
