The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has confirmed the deaths of seven individuals in a road accident that occurred on the Ibadan-Iseyin road on Thursday.

According to Mr Mayowa Odewo, the Public Relations Officer of the FRSC Oyo Sector Command, the deceased included five male adults, one female adult, and one female child.

Odewo reported that 15 people sustained various degrees of injuries out of the 22 involved in the crash.

He attributed the accident, which involved a Nissan Urvan commercial bus (registration number: SEY 254 ZY) and a Mazda commercial bus (registration number: LGB 343 XA), to speeding and driver fatigue.

Odewo said that they had taken the 13 injured victims—three male adults, nine female adults, and one female child—to a nearby hospital for medical treatment.

He added that the families had claimed the bodies of four of the seven deceased victims, while they had placed the remaining three in a morgue.

He also said that the police from the Motor Traffic Division (MTD) at the Moniya Police Division in Ibadan had taken custody of the two crashed vehicles, as well as bags and other valuables recovered from the scene.

The FRSC spokesperson noted that seat belts and other safety devices did not save any of the victims.

He urged motorists to always obey traffic rules and regulations and to heed all road safety warnings to prevent avoidable accidents.
